Shrine (Poetry)

They came here out of curiosity —
to see what all the fuss is for and claim
a piece of her immutable serenity —
gaze at the untouchably sublime.
Behind the glass, her distance keeps them wondering...
however they examine her they know
there’s something that escapes the closest scrutiny —
an otherness they can’t define or name.
The sacredness of beauty has a majesty —
a quality projecting from the frame
that touches, finds an echo of love’s fantasy —
adored, her image holds them in its thrall.
And she’s become an icon — a celebrity,
worshipped in the way that is her due,
embodying perfection’s passing miracle
and offering a glimpse of the divine.
to see what all the fuss is for and claim
a piece of her immutable serenity —
gaze at the untouchably sublime.
