Skipping For Her Life (Poetry)

30th July 2025
My dad’s a sailor
he’s gone off to sea
my mum’s a mermaid
what does that make me?
One plus two makes three

Dad’s on a big ship
Mummy’s in the tub
I don’t like bathdays
Rub-a-dub-dub-dub
now who’s for a scrub?

Mummy calls him ‘waster’
she says he’s no good
I think he might be
misunderstood — would
come home if he could

I take no notice
other kids are mean
they’ve got their daddies
living neat and clean
round the village green

My Dad’s a rover
nor sure of his name
Tom, Dick or Harry
absent all the same
life’s a skipping game
