Slower And Slower (Poetry)
09th February 2025
When I think how smooth
our bodies once were
the ease with each limb
obeyed every whim
of locomotion...
Now it’s come to this —
not one movement made
without twinge and gasp
each joint gives out a
near-audible rasp
Age triggered some change
one night as we slept
speed levels reset
and Time’s rotten thief
left a jeering note
These legs can’t be mine
though vaguely the same
skin puckered and blotched
webbed purple with vein
too inclined to limp
Flabby arms refuse
to carry or lift
old muscles grown sore
since power’s been cut
slow down ... more ... and more
our bodies once were
the ease with each limb
obeyed every whim
of locomotion...
Now it’s come to this —
not one movement made
without twinge and gasp
each joint gives out a
near-audible rasp
Age triggered some change
one night as we slept
speed levels reset
and Time’s rotten thief
left a jeering note
These legs can’t be mine
though vaguely the same
skin puckered and blotched
webbed purple with vein
too inclined to limp
Flabby arms refuse
to carry or lift
old muscles grown sore
since power’s been cut
slow down ... more ... and more
