Snowwoman (Poetry)
17th March 2019
I am a woman made of snow
I feel my flesh becoming slush
the north wind chips away my bone
my face denied the blood to blush
The sun has banished me from sight
dissolving limb by icy limb
with little substance left to fight
I have no option but give in
I was so perfect once — so cold
my body pure as crystal light
but time is cruel and I got old
and weather greyed my virgin white
I wither now — shrink low and melt
become a sorry nameless heap
but I recall how good it felt
when blizzards loved me wild and deep —
their Arctic kisses froze me through
the howling gale our special song
I seized the day as if I knew
such passion rarely lasts too long ...
The storm departed — left me numb
and glowing like a winter bride
my finery too soon undone
revealed a frigid heart inside
Like other creatures carved from snow
my nerveless hands weren’t born to pray
this chill existence all I know
no god will save. I slip away ...
I feel my flesh becoming slush
the north wind chips away my bone
my face denied the blood to blush
The sun has banished me from sight
dissolving limb by icy limb
with little substance left to fight
I have no option but give in
I was so perfect once — so cold
my body pure as crystal light
but time is cruel and I got old
and weather greyed my virgin white
I wither now — shrink low and melt
become a sorry nameless heap
but I recall how good it felt
when blizzards loved me wild and deep —
their Arctic kisses froze me through
the howling gale our special song
I seized the day as if I knew
such passion rarely lasts too long ...
The storm departed — left me numb
and glowing like a winter bride
my finery too soon undone
revealed a frigid heart inside
Like other creatures carved from snow
my nerveless hands weren’t born to pray
this chill existence all I know
no god will save. I slip away ...
