Solitaire (Poetry)

There is one person I would love
if luck could just discover
the time to dig for qualities
which chime with one another
Fate sent me on a fruitless search
where monsters ten-a-penny
hungered for a maiden’s kiss
while heroes there weren’t any
I sang a song — a lonesome dirge
that wafted from my tower
it warbled aching — filled my throat
with sentiment’s sweet power
Yet passing strangers seemed quite deaf
however I might try
to snare them with the lines I’d float
long-lost to wind and sky
No likely suitors called on me
nobody scaled my wall
to charm me with a bold remark
or slip and take a fall
The road below my window winds
its dusty years away
far-off the ghostly dragons roar
white knights too old to play
if luck could just discover
the time to dig for qualities
which chime with one another
Fate sent me on a fruitless search
where monsters ten-a-penny
hungered for a maiden’s kiss
while heroes there weren’t any
I sang a song — a lonesome dirge
that wafted from my tower
it warbled aching — filled my throat
with sentiment’s sweet power
Yet passing strangers seemed quite deaf
however I might try
to snare them with the lines I’d float
long-lost to wind and sky
No likely suitors called on me
nobody scaled my wall
to charm me with a bold remark
or slip and take a fall
The road below my window winds
its dusty years away
far-off the ghostly dragons roar
white knights too old to play
