Someone Else (Poetry)

25th January 2016
I feel pity for the ones who you call friends
anyone who thinks you’re special — a true star
and believes their future happiness depends
on you. You’re not the girl they think you are.

Oh, you’re pretty and your manner’s very sweet
how could anybody not fall for your charm?
You’re Miss Popular with everyone you meet
you’ve always had that talent to disarm.

I so-wish you’d been as kind as you pretend
it was too easy to adore you from the start
no hint or clue to how it all would end
’til time revealed the cold side of your heart.

I never dreamed you’d turn out to be mean
or hurtful — for a mother tells herself
she’s raised the dearest child that’s ever been...
Except you aren’t that girl — you’re someone else.
