Sonnet For Survival (Poetry)

05th February 2023
If I could love thee better then I would
I love thee all my feeble heart can bear
and if that seems less able than it should
it’s not for want of striving — this I swear
The quality of feeling stretches thin
when tested by the tempest and the flood
and such dire straits that find us foundering
up to our necks in some fresh lake of mud
Faith falters at such times. We fear and doubt
the strength of love and loyalty to pull through
and ne’er again we’ll see the sun come out
it seems we’re lost no matter what we do
Yet while life storms we still recall the vow
‘for better or for worse’... Survive — somehow
