Spying In Smugland (Poetry)

A real posh commune
gated securely
so no riffraff here
we ogle and peer
at neatly-trimmed lawns

No leaves on the drive
for no tree would dare
clipped almost sapless
birds twitter crapless
cars gleam without smears

Each property screams
exclusive — designed
for those with accounts
to match large amounts
with first class demands

We reconnoitre
spying in smugland
jacuzzi heaven
bridge club at seven
wife swapping, au pairs ...

Their lives lived behind
high walls and railings
almost monastic
wealth built on plastic
exchanging tight smiles
