Statement Of Intent (Poetry)

I’ll be leaving very shortly
I’ve a journey on my mind
and it needs some preparation
of the quiet and thoughtful kind

There’s a subtle way of going
without drama, without fuss
I will say goodbye discreetly
when I close the door on us

It’s not easy to abandon
what we had and all we shared
for the little things will haunt me
and remind me how I cared

But our party is long over
I’ll be on my way quite soon
with the moody night for cover
and my only light the moon

It is far too late for crying
there’s no purpose to distress
I’m shipping out — you’ll find me gone
