That First Kiss (Poetry)

14th August 2022
That first kiss felt soft — like snow
falling on my heart below
for I’d been waiting in the quiet
of that still, expectant night

It held me thrilled by its cool press
so light and pure, with a caress
that lingered — tingled — caused a sigh
of promise as the thought passed by

Was I mistaken? — Was it just
a one-time-only gentle brush
or did it signal more to come?
The darkness yawned, the sky stayed dumb

A lull, a whisper, then a storm
of kisses wild and piling warm
no weather warning passion’s crush
by morning’s light dissolved to slush
