The (Almost) Hidden Agenda (Poetry)

Let’s ridicule the common man
secure him in the public stocks
and play the tyrant all we can
hurl legislation’s hardest rocks.

Let’s put the peasant in his place
teach the worker who’s in charge
wipe free expression off his face
like Orwell wrote it — by and large.

Let’s shackle all the sick and poor
declare they have no human rights
we’ll blacklist names — bust down each door
depress their days — cause restless nights.

Let’s target them — those damaged drones
who suck up benefits en masse
while whimpering from hutch-like homes
forever-trapped — the workless class.

The underprivileged — the lame
let’s leave such beggars in their beds
and cut their rations — skew the game
reduce and save on overheads.

Extermination seems severe
but over-population’s fact
no hangers-on — it’s crystal clear
let’s all agree and pass the act.
