The Crash (Poetry)
24th February 2013
Something happened in the city
deals fell through and rumours spread
tittle-tattle fed the papers
headlines black with doom and dread.
Millions wiped and values falling
by the hour savings dried
from great lakes to dust bowls — empty
economic suicide.
Worthless notes — green bits of paper
roll like tumbleweed along
deserted streets — the population
few and hopeless — hanging on...
Most have lost belief in heaven
since investments hit the floor
Jesus can’t feed all the children
now the wolf is at the door.
And those who cannot see a future
live the moment — breath to breath
barter everything of value
buy a quick and certain death.
