The Dearly Departed (Poetry)

Well ... What can one say about Eddie
that hasn’t already been said?
Most thought him a quite charming fellow —
it’s pretty much taken as read

Though in truth none were sure that they knew him —
such a private chap right to the end
with few enemies that we’re aware of
and no one you’d call a close friend

We’re agreed on the whole that we’ll miss him —
always cheerful — an all-round good sport
and the ladies could hardly resist him
so surprising he never got caught!

There were husbands aplenty who wondered
yet afterwards turned a blind eye
it had seemed rather cheap to accuse him
for he was such an affable guy!

At least that’s the general opinion
expressed with a nod of the head
from those mourners who pay him fond tribute
although some aren’t too sorry he’s dead!
