The Fix (Poetry)
07th January 2024
Someone’s moved the goalposts
someone’s queered the pitch
there’s one rule for the workers
but no rules for the rich
The game we’ve all been playing
is all a thin disguise
true colours now betraying
those facts revealed as lies
The innocent have suffered
the witnesses turned blind
and every clue kicked over
’til nothing’s left to find
We all suspect it’s crooked
the deal is far from fair
while good men sleep uneasy
corruption taints the air
Smug bankers check the scoreboard
and still the votes roll in
the outcome pre-decided
the Devil’s tipped to win
someone’s queered the pitch
there’s one rule for the workers
but no rules for the rich
The game we’ve all been playing
is all a thin disguise
true colours now betraying
those facts revealed as lies
The innocent have suffered
the witnesses turned blind
and every clue kicked over
’til nothing’s left to find
We all suspect it’s crooked
the deal is far from fair
while good men sleep uneasy
corruption taints the air
Smug bankers check the scoreboard
and still the votes roll in
the outcome pre-decided
the Devil’s tipped to win
