The House Through The Trees (Poetry)
09th July 2024
I see them at night
their windows all lit
the curtains undrawn
the drama of it
seems blindly performed
Each scene is played out
confined to one room
a period set
to match the costume
of those who enact
the story so far ...
a family plot
a saga of blood
a scream and a shot
the slam of a door
Then silence so thick
the trees hold their breath
although there’s no more
the mystery’s left
for others to solve
That old house still stands
I walk the dog past
see gas lights aglow
the play’s ghostly cast
go on with the show
their windows all lit
the curtains undrawn
the drama of it
seems blindly performed
Each scene is played out
confined to one room
a period set
to match the costume
of those who enact
the story so far ...
a family plot
a saga of blood
a scream and a shot
the slam of a door
Then silence so thick
the trees hold their breath
although there’s no more
the mystery’s left
for others to solve
That old house still stands
I walk the dog past
see gas lights aglow
the play’s ghostly cast
go on with the show
