The Human Zoo (Poetry)

14th July 2014
A long-haired Hope sat washing its
pale paws in a dim cage.
A spotted Doubt slow-wormed its way
between cold narrow bars.
While Irritation niggled — flared
to muted sobs of Rage
and clawed at creeping shadows
blotting out indifferent stars.

Love hung down from its lofty perch
and whispered to the moon.
Worry clung to cliffs and stared
towards the far-off tide
as Fear sailed its abandoned ship
the sea sang out of tune
for Faith had lost its compass and
the world stretched way too wide.

Hope cheered up Doubt and Worry turned
against small nagging Fears.
Faith found a new direction, coaxing Love
down from its tree.
Rage and Irritation drank their sorry
pool of tears.
The cage was sprung, the needle swung
and wild ideas ran free.
