The List Of All Lists (Poetry)

Words trail their long line
the snake keeps growing
very few tasks missed
no break time showing
on this to-do list

Part memory aid
for some nagging voice
that’s loud on paper
duty versus choice
no chore-escaper

with its crossings-through
then more addings-on
it gets no shorter
seems so little’s done
frayed nerves get fraughter

There’s a list for this
and a list for that
works fine for others —
‘Walk Dog’ ... ‘Feed the Cat’...
‘Wash cushion covers’

Post-it note NBs
a daily feature
but this monstrous list
squats like some creature
that shouldn’t exist
