The Long Silent Scream (Poetry)

Pain travels by tube
strung out arteries
live with commuters
shooting through blackness
beneath the surface

The nervous system
sparking electric
counting the pulses
deep in those tunnels
sensation speeds through

Unnamed the stations
whistle-stop junctions
agony passes
the points all preset
no stopping it now

The night train express
burrowing darkly
fuelled by suffering
stoked up with fever
its schedule unknown

Trapped far underground
unheard in the wake
of tremble and ache
breath huffs and stifles
the long silent scream
