The MD* Diaries (Poetry)

11th August 2024
(*Manic Depressive)

The words stand starker
on pages cut thin
a candle flickers
shadows gather in
let the tale begin

What happens slowly
is hard to define
a change so subtle
gives no clue or sign
worries line by line

The once-bright prospect
sabotaged with fear
faith’s gone to ruin
crumbled year by year
nothing solid here

Bring on black humour
laugh until you cry
life’s crazy rumour
sees the decades fly
friends and lovers die

The last page beckons
waiting for a mark
the pen’s turned silent
aching for a spark
thoughts drift in the dark
