The Meaning (Poetry)

24th February 2013
No robin on the sill
No cruel North-Easter’s chill
No wreath nailed to the door
No needles on the floor.

No frost nor hint of snow
No cheery candleglow
No wondrous winter star
No message from afar.

No answer to the prayer
No angel’s loving care
No sign of anything
No bell for faith to ring.

No carols and no crib
No greetings to ad lib
No welcome on the mat
No Visitors. No cat.

No pudding and no wine
No sense of the divine
No spirit — rum or gin
No warmth to enter in.

No peace for the lone heart
in limbo — worlds apart
journeying to find
some meaning for Mankind.
