The Other Side (Poetry)
01st January 2026
Somehow I know it’s not too far
the veil is thinning as I near
and instinct tells me what they are
no need of caution — naught to fear
The legends by and large are true
they’re watching always as they must
and witness all we humans do
from birth until we come to dust
We sometimes glimpse a passing face
aglow with an unearthly light
a messenger who crosses space
twixt Heaven and eternal night
They know each weakness — read our minds
and guide us down our given path
no matter how it twists and winds
distractions tempting fore and aft
Protected always by the thought
a spirit guards my feeble frame
and should I stumble I’ll be caught
so I can journey on again
And there are times I feel a hand
that warms my shoulder spreading calm
a voice that bids me understand
where danger lurks or risk of harm
When on the very edge of sleep
I sense dark’s chasm looming wide
then hear my angel whisper ‘Leap!’
and thus I reach the other side
the veil is thinning as I near
and instinct tells me what they are
no need of caution — naught to fear
The legends by and large are true
they’re watching always as they must
and witness all we humans do
from birth until we come to dust
We sometimes glimpse a passing face
aglow with an unearthly light
a messenger who crosses space
twixt Heaven and eternal night
They know each weakness — read our minds
and guide us down our given path
no matter how it twists and winds
distractions tempting fore and aft
Protected always by the thought
a spirit guards my feeble frame
and should I stumble I’ll be caught
so I can journey on again
And there are times I feel a hand
that warms my shoulder spreading calm
a voice that bids me understand
where danger lurks or risk of harm
When on the very edge of sleep
I sense dark’s chasm looming wide
then hear my angel whisper ‘Leap!’
and thus I reach the other side
