The Pavement Artist (Poetry)

26th July 2026
Last night’s steady rain
has washed the pavement
clean of yesterday
he begins again
to colour the grey

using rainbow chalk
conjures fantasy
brightens the dull street
while commuters walk
past on duty’s feet

Some smile down to see
dragons, castles, kings ...
others have no eye
for imagined things
blank-faced hurry by

A few recognise
his talent and throw
coins into his cap
on some level know
he’s escaped the trap

in which they’ve fallen
his mind attuned to
Art’s old siren call
dreams are free to view
unicorns and all
