The Roundness Of Pots (Poetry)

Full-bellied in tradition’s style —
that shape brings comfort —
suggests fecundity — a roundness that, at heart
holds all of life concealed —
protects and saves
within the earth-walled dark.

Fashioned from cold clay
and soft as flesh before the firing flame
they await fulfilment —
each one a female vessel
contoured for no other purpose
but to contain.
