The Shift (Poetry)
05th May 2019
Sometimes I hear the clouds collide —
the clear-edged glassy ring
of sky poured into heaven’s cup
its liquid offering
I feel the stars give up their light —
grow dark as they implode
and distant planets rearrange
to share the shifting load
The atoms in my body melt
and form a tunnel through
to where the questing spirit meets
with notions termed taboo
And in these moments thought expands
to fill the gap inside
evicting every fear I had
and all that doubt implied
Enlightenment — it comes and goes
while life may be a sham
for that one second I’m aware
how small a fish I am
the clear-edged glassy ring
of sky poured into heaven’s cup
its liquid offering
I feel the stars give up their light —
grow dark as they implode
and distant planets rearrange
to share the shifting load
The atoms in my body melt
and form a tunnel through
to where the questing spirit meets
with notions termed taboo
And in these moments thought expands
to fill the gap inside
evicting every fear I had
and all that doubt implied
Enlightenment — it comes and goes
while life may be a sham
for that one second I’m aware
how small a fish I am
