The Way Home (Poetry)

05th March 2023
I came here out of nowhere
and at last I’m going back
my footsteps take me down an old
and worn familiar track

that wanders through the way I came —
a land of highs and lows
we labelled ‘life’ — those misty hills
the questing spirit knows

The sun feels warm upon my skin
the day has promised fine
for journeying with a glad heart
set following each sign

There’s comfort and a blessing borne
on every gentle breeze
so I can linger where I will
there’s time to take my ease ...

At leisure then I’ll turn to wave
I’ve said my fond goodbyes
I’m going back — the way I came
shines bright before my eyes
