The Weakest Link (Poetry)
02nd June 2019
I’m someone who I used to know —
I’m barely me, I think
identities may come and go
change happens in a blink
The mirror’s judgement’s hardly fair
while inner feelings lie
I grow less certain as I stare
and fail to meet my eye
I’m not at home to who I was —
old bones put out to grass
the break should do me good because
the former me is past
Rejuvenation’s now the game —
I feel my future shrink —
some stranger glimpsed within the frame
her flesh the weakest link
I’m barely me, I think
identities may come and go
change happens in a blink
The mirror’s judgement’s hardly fair
while inner feelings lie
I grow less certain as I stare
and fail to meet my eye
I’m not at home to who I was —
old bones put out to grass
the break should do me good because
the former me is past
Rejuvenation’s now the game —
I feel my future shrink —
some stranger glimpsed within the frame
her flesh the weakest link
