There In The Detail (Poetry)

It is my turn now
to be alone with
my many regrets
take my share of blame
for bad choices made

My analysis
of the rights and wrongs
has no doubt altered
over all the years
of making mistakes

I still have days when
all I can see is
a burning train wreck
a complete write-off
my whole life squandered

Then look carefully
sift through the debris
and salvage moments
special memories
retrieved unbroken

A little dusty
but true to the tale
the best bits hidden
there in the details
for better or worse
