There's Too Many Words (Poetry)

27th July 2026
I have been searching
for something fresher
a new word someone
hasn’t used before —
a discovery

that will give my pen
another contour
to describe as it
travels down the page
claimed with a bright flag

I have trawled through too
many lexicons
now so familiar
I could simply let
my finger sleepwalk

Stuck in memory
those tongue-tested words
no longer impact
over-used — tired
their colour bled out

There’s too many words —
hackneyed sounds and shapes
past their retirement
someone should invent
a novel language
