Things to Consider (Poetry)
25th August 2006
The book I cannot open,
The code I failed to crack,
The enigmatic token,
The hint behind my back.
The riddle with no reason,
The face without a name,
The flower out of season,
The rule outside the game.
The puzzle with no answer,
The door that’s bolted shut,
The waltz without a dancer,
The wheel that makes no rut.
The shoes you never walked in,
The dress I almost wore,
The rooms we couldn’t talk in,
The blood upon the floor.
The silence seeps like water,
The years slip past uncaught,
The love that’s bound to falter,
The dream’s a fading thought.
The land I only heard of,
The chance I didn’t give,
The loss I had no word of,
The life I longed to live.
The code I failed to crack,
The enigmatic token,
The hint behind my back.
The riddle with no reason,
The face without a name,
The flower out of season,
The rule outside the game.
The puzzle with no answer,
The door that’s bolted shut,
The waltz without a dancer,
The wheel that makes no rut.
The shoes you never walked in,
The dress I almost wore,
The rooms we couldn’t talk in,
The blood upon the floor.
The silence seeps like water,
The years slip past uncaught,
The love that’s bound to falter,
The dream’s a fading thought.
The land I only heard of,
The chance I didn’t give,
The loss I had no word of,
The life I longed to live.
