Think Tank (Poetry)

Minnow-flicker-quick and tropical
iotas in their electric stripes
mouth at division’s glass, turn and sink back keen
to find a crevice in the busy reef of brain
their lives rely on camouflage to blend

Big ideas, sharp with spines, bubble up
roll, plunge and thrash the water wild
greedily gulping oxygen, submerging
suddenly to make a show — time’s reel running
the thin line playing out ...

An incoming shoal — multicoloured exclamations
neon dashes in formation ever-changing
wave patterns in agreement undulating
with the tide of opinion rising/falling/lapping
against a cross-current smoke-tinged with doubts

An old leviathan disturbed from murky depths
throws odd suggestions going out on a long limb
creates a swirl of turbulence — a swell among
drifting dream-fish plumbing reason, chewing over
random strands of speculation — sucking on objections —
                                                        spitting awkward stones
