Those Warm Lamp-Lit Rooms (Poetry)

18th November 2024
Bathed in a mellow glow
the row of houses share
the quiet evening comfort of well-loved homes

Seen from the road
the view across long lawns through uncurtained windows
gives a glimpse of other lives
illuminated soft by shaded lamps
rooms bask their plumped-up cushions and relax
amidst gleaming polished wood and porcelain

It’s a soothing world preserving charm
from bygone days that valued what’s passed on
and gathers — furnishes to match the mood
saves what’s left from generations gone

A line of homes — old bricks, long memories
they warm the street as though these houses smile
at passers-by who see into their hearts
and maybe for a moment understand
the inner life that guides so naturally
tradition’s taste and keeps its sense of style
