Thoughts on the Election

Is it really worth the trouble? —
there’s no power in the ‘X’
it won’t save us from extinction
it can’t lift the witch’s hex

The black box holds rafts of secrets
in democracy’s disguise —
that old myth the people cling to
as they swallow swarms of lies

It won’t matter who we vote for
makes no difference — not one jot
the result’s been long-decided
for money talked as like as not

What we have is pure theatre —
someone wrote this wretched play
it doesn’t matter who we vote for
the story ends up the same way

So, is it really worth the effort?
the absentee is labelled ‘sloth’
alternatively ‘disillusioned’ —
when ‘fucked-off’ means a bit of both
