Thrown (Poetry)

09th October 2011
In daylight, truth be told, you’re far from perfect —
last night you seemed attractive, but my eyes
could barely focus then — I’d done the circuit —
so really it should be no big surprise

you’re only half the man that I remember —
you now appear part human and part horse
I’m thrown that you were taken for a member
but the club is fairly liberal, of course.

It’s true that, even now, I find you charming —
those muscles and that smile could hardly fail —
it’s just that it’s a shock — a tad alarming
to find you’ve got four hooves and a fine tail.

Last night you were the centaur of attention —
for I was drunk to tell the honest truth
and things were done it’s better not to mention
but I’ll not look a gift horse in the mouth —

We might give it a go — I’ve never ridden
but I could learn the equine rules of play
unless there’s something else that you’ve kept hidden
it’s Hi Ho Silver, giddyup away!
