To A City Bird (Poetry)

08th December 2025
Stay in the trees my little bird
high up where you are safe from harm
don’t venture down within the reach
of those who value not your charm

Don’t risk the bustle of the town
for danger lurks in every street
where humans are in noisy flocks
you must beware their careless feet

Do not be tempted by bright crumbs
they scatter messy as they feed
avoid cruel children’s fiendish fun
they chase and kick so take good heed

Keep to the rooftops if you must
live in the city with no choice
but nest in buildings roosting where
the traffic’s roar drowns out your voice

Oh fly away my little bird
and find green woods where you belong
and hearts that treasure all things wild
are lifted skywards by your song
