To Forgive And Forget (Poetry)

25th September 2022
What you learn from lovers
is to maybe love yourself
to hate yourself and then
at last forgive yourself

and know that forever
can never be enough
for everything must change
all promises are dust

What you take from lovers
you would most likely keep
but it all dies in a moment
and falls victim to lost sleep

For lovers prove love fickle
the hopeless moonlight dims
just as trees will soon forget
their old long-sawn-off limbs
