Tomorrow's Tide (Poetry)

24th June 2011
One day leaks into another
and the queueing years spill over —
drown us with their numbering —

all our clocks and calendars colluding —
sly in their strategy
to change while we’re not looking.

We set our dates and plan small wars with time —
regiment our schedules — take
midnight’s bridge into the future...

while the flood is rising faster than we know —
the hours running quicker and quicker —
tomorrow’s tide already lapping at the door.
