Too Deep (Poetry)
18th May 2014
How to forgive what cannot be forgiven —
How to undo what cannot be undone —
What sin is such that must remain unshriven —
That taints all memory and years to come ?
Some cruelties cut too deep for absolution —
Some crimes leave wounds that weep and never heal —
There is no cure — no rite of restitution —
The damage too intense — too raw — too real.
Accepting pain promotes an understanding —
That many cannot fathom — fail to grasp
A quiet resignation’s less demanding
Than digging hopeless through a haunted past.
