Too Much Has Happened (Poetry)
05th March 2023
Too much has happened
too much time has gone by
birds fly in the ocean
fish float in the sky
the sun has grown colder
the moon’s showing blood
there’s warnings of tempest
and rumours of flood
None can turn the clock back
and unkill the dead
undo what’s been done
or unsay what’s been said
the graveyards are full
while the cradles are bare
love prayed to the angels
but found no one there
It’s too late for sorry
the damage is done
for too much has changed
and the moment’s long-gone
regret’s just an echo
remorse an old ghost
that taunts with reminders
loss tortures the most
Hope had her small funeral
real flowers were few
and none really cared
what was false, what was true
the years have escaped us
the small print unread
all the windows are dark
night hangs heavy with dread
Now nothing is certain
some dance in the rain
and drink to the devil
embracing their pain
too much time wasted
the best has gone by
but it’s too late to worry
we’re dust in God’s eye
too much time has gone by
birds fly in the ocean
fish float in the sky
the sun has grown colder
the moon’s showing blood
there’s warnings of tempest
and rumours of flood
None can turn the clock back
and unkill the dead
undo what’s been done
or unsay what’s been said
the graveyards are full
while the cradles are bare
love prayed to the angels
but found no one there
It’s too late for sorry
the damage is done
for too much has changed
and the moment’s long-gone
regret’s just an echo
remorse an old ghost
that taunts with reminders
loss tortures the most
Hope had her small funeral
real flowers were few
and none really cared
what was false, what was true
the years have escaped us
the small print unread
all the windows are dark
night hangs heavy with dread
Now nothing is certain
some dance in the rain
and drink to the devil
embracing their pain
too much time wasted
the best has gone by
but it’s too late to worry
we’re dust in God’s eye
