Touching Base (Poetry)

The more we take away
the more it gives us back
this land so long abused forgives the thief
who strips and steals
who wounds and scars
leaves nothing but raw grief
yet earth mends itself
grows quietly strong
puts right the wrong
pays back with each unfurling trusting leaf

The more we let true nature in
the deeper we connect
to root and soil
to rain and sun and seed
and all the things that have no cost
but love and grateful thanks
from the wise who’ve always known the truth
it’s all we really need
