Towards Extinction (Poetry)
02nd March 2025
I am the last one
breathing strange and rare
my world is no more
life shows nothing where
the future winked green
That safe habitat
cultured warm in youth
slyly trashed and burned
now destruction’s truth
has undone that dream
All that I held dear
ruined — dead and gone
stone and flesh and leaf
I once counted on
bulldozed from the scene
I’m an oddity
last one of my kind
relic from a past
planners left behind
just an old has-been
Clinging dumb to hope
love will surely save
and the good won’t end
in an unmarked grave
memory swept clean
breathing strange and rare
my world is no more
life shows nothing where
the future winked green
That safe habitat
cultured warm in youth
slyly trashed and burned
now destruction’s truth
has undone that dream
All that I held dear
ruined — dead and gone
stone and flesh and leaf
I once counted on
bulldozed from the scene
I’m an oddity
last one of my kind
relic from a past
planners left behind
just an old has-been
Clinging dumb to hope
love will surely save
and the good won’t end
in an unmarked grave
memory swept clean
