Training A Rogue House Plant (Poetry)
07th May 2026
There is this plant that lately I’ve been fighting with —
a wild explosion of sly runners armed with leaves
seems quietly cunning — hoards the sustenance I give
and grows so furious and fast one half-believes
it has agendas — plans to overwhelm with green
the crowded space beside my sink where sunbeams stream ...
I don’t recall now what he’s called — the label’s lost
a random purchase on a quite spontaneous whim
the shop was closing — knock-down bargains sold at cost
he looked the weedy kind in need of rescuing
but since he’s rooted firm and comfy in his pot
he has ambitions — I can almost hear him plot
So some strict cultivation’s needed right away
No choice but nip things in the bud without delay
a wild explosion of sly runners armed with leaves
seems quietly cunning — hoards the sustenance I give
and grows so furious and fast one half-believes
it has agendas — plans to overwhelm with green
the crowded space beside my sink where sunbeams stream ...
