True Hearts Of Oak (Poetry)
18th May 2014
True hearts of oak — where are you now?
Do you exist today?
Are you still beating stout and strong —
or lost to Time’s decay?
Is there some ancient secret clan
still loyal to England’s dream? —
Perhaps with plans to resurrect
past glories — some grand scheme
to raise once more a nation built
on patriotic pride
where old traditions have their place —
sit easy side by side
with new ideas well-grounded in
the values of the past —
beliefs that captured mind and soul
and held its people fast.
Oh, hearts of oak — if you survive
act soon — don’t hesitate
your homeland needs the likes of men
who once made England great.
Come, rally to her rescue and
defend our common ground —
Old hearts of oak like heroes rise
to hear the trumpet sound!
Do you exist today?
Are you still beating stout and strong —
or lost to Time’s decay?
Is there some ancient secret clan
still loyal to England’s dream? —
Perhaps with plans to resurrect
past glories — some grand scheme
to raise once more a nation built
on patriotic pride
where old traditions have their place —

with new ideas well-grounded in

and held its people fast.
Oh, hearts of oak — if you survive

Old hearts of oak like heroes rise
to hear the trumpet sound!
