Twitter (Poetry)
02nd June 2019
She died in her seat at the window
she passed away watching the birds
as they pecked and they preened in the branches
she imagined their free-flying world
The blue of her eyes found the heavens
her face felt the light of the sun
and her soul melted into the ether
all the hurt in her body undone
So she left in the quiet of the morning
she was gone in the blink of an eye
and her frail gauzy shadow blew over
faint as cloud quick-dissolved in the sky
Then the blackbird sang loud from the gutter
and the doves cooed so sweet in the tree
while the twitter of tongues from the bushes
told the end of her story to me
*
Now we feed every soul bearing feathers
scatter seed on the ledge twice a day
though she’s flown to another dimension
in a sense she’s not too far away
she passed away watching the birds
as they pecked and they preened in the branches
she imagined their free-flying world
The blue of her eyes found the heavens
her face felt the light of the sun
and her soul melted into the ether
all the hurt in her body undone
So she left in the quiet of the morning
she was gone in the blink of an eye
and her frail gauzy shadow blew over
faint as cloud quick-dissolved in the sky
Then the blackbird sang loud from the gutter
and the doves cooed so sweet in the tree
while the twitter of tongues from the bushes
told the end of her story to me

Now we feed every soul bearing feathers
scatter seed on the ledge twice a day
though she’s flown to another dimension
in a sense she’s not too far away
