Under House Arrest (Poetry)

26th March 2023
The sunshine’s rarely looked quite this inviting
the trees so varied in their shades of green
the flirty breeze so tempting and exciting
I shut my eyes — pretend I haven’t seen

the vivid sky that boasts its blue so boldly
and flitting birds who sing like they’re in love
those dandelions that lift their heads so goldly
to welcome all that buzz and fly above

The squirrels bounce like circus acts rehearsing
as springing branches toss them through the air
they’ll never know the envy I am nursing
such natural freedom’s way beyond compare

My skin is lonely for the touch of weather —
wind or rain or sun — no matter which
as notions of escape bind hope together
to try to soothe this ever-growing itch
