Unfit For Future Purpose (Poetry)
26th March 2023
I feel unfit for anything
I used to do
my body fails its feeble life
falters, flickers
like a light unsure
it has the faith
to see night through
No steadfastness
confirming
I might (with luck) fight and find
confidence enough in flesh
even the fleeting kind
that flares sufficient
to take off
hold fast
to the fanciful if flawed flight plan
Floored. Flames of
defiance flooded
with defeat. Each failure
furiously unfair
for who the fuck forbids
a fragile flowering
of hope?
The foreign body falls
a fraction further
can’t define the fiction
from the fact
the fabulous is false
fears fatal contradiction
as fluid flows
the fabric’s folding back
Nothing fits
the physical is finished
frankly I’m astounded by the fable
that perfection can be found
in any figure fashioned for the purpose
use infallibly disables — friction
flakes and fritters all
fall
down
