Unfurling (Poetry)
16th April 2017
I wish my cares would wash away
in healing April rain
and leave me pure — so fresh and green
set free from gloom’s long chain
I dream I am an unfurled leaf
that warms to a spring sun
and sways so light upon a breeze
my energy’s re-sprung
I yearn to flutter in the blue
or cruise calm seas of night
sail far above the past’s chill ground
released from Winter’s bite
Such fancies come when days are bright
sweet promise fills the air
with hope eternal in small buds
that wait so patient there
And I am awed to witness how
the earth makes good its claim
and offers proof that Life returns
thus Death is foiled again
in healing April rain
and leave me pure — so fresh and green
set free from gloom’s long chain
I dream I am an unfurled leaf
that warms to a spring sun
and sways so light upon a breeze
my energy’s re-sprung
I yearn to flutter in the blue
or cruise calm seas of night
sail far above the past’s chill ground
released from Winter’s bite
Such fancies come when days are bright
sweet promise fills the air
with hope eternal in small buds
that wait so patient there
And I am awed to witness how
the earth makes good its claim
and offers proof that Life returns
thus Death is foiled again
