Vanishing From View (Poetry)
20th April 2025
It’s enough to say
I’ve had my fifteen
minutes of near-fame
and it’s time to go
back the way I came
to obscurity
musing in the dark
carrying that glow
a warm memory
what it is to know
once upon a time
an eye-blink — no more
the spotlight found me
and I bathed awhile
knew instinctively
such things seldom last
favourites have their day
and the world moves on
searching out the new
all attention gone
Like a lover left
for a younger face
echoes follow through
my old star eclipsed
vanishing from view
I’ve had my fifteen
minutes of near-fame
and it’s time to go
back the way I came
to obscurity
musing in the dark
carrying that glow
a warm memory
what it is to know
once upon a time
an eye-blink — no more
the spotlight found me
and I bathed awhile
knew instinctively
such things seldom last
favourites have their day
and the world moves on
searching out the new
all attention gone
Like a lover left
for a younger face
echoes follow through
my old star eclipsed
vanishing from view
