Delinquent poems
that won’t stand in line
scatter vague meaning
rebel for the sake
of being perverse

Getting frustrated
knocking them about
editing to shape
hardly ever helps
words stick and resist

refuse discipline
sit awkward and dumb
deliberately
aimed to obscure sense
wreck flow and structure

Tradition’s old hat
avoid lyrical
and moon/June cliché
adopt what’s truly
free and anarchic

translates unruly
thoughts play a wild card
yet tease out patterns
some snatch of rhythm
rhyme’s habits die hard
