What Goes Together (Poetry)

(Or: Selection Process)

Pieces of paper
each one represents
an episode in
life’s raw unscripted
drama — these odd lines

picked out in moments
where desperation
finds its small release
in words as symbols
screaming at the world

all neat and contained
pretending all things
can be expressed as
simply black and white
where blood is pooling

the play for today
throws up the same plot
all repetition
destiny welded
irony had got

a firm audience
poems fold their sheep
in random order
young, old, strong or weak
bed down together
