Who Knows (Poetry)

14th May 2019
Who knows what kind of tale she told β€”
what flimsy fiction spun
the made-up story must have stuck
the damage now long-done

While truth rests easy as years pass
lies rarely travel well
they twist and turn β€” grow cumbersome
and crack their too-thin shell

Whatever the excuses made
to drive a wedge between
old awkward questions undermine
and doubt undoes the scheme

It’s hard to pin what happened down β€”
facts tend to slip and slide
and truth can prove a tricky thing
who knows for sure who lied
